Sustainability

People

Who manufactures and supplies our products is of the utmost importance to us. And we also believe in the importance of transparency towards you, our customer. You should be able to see which factory has made the clothes you buy, and be completely sure that everything has been done in the fairest way possible.

Our suppliers

Polarn O. Pyret doesn’t own any factories – our clothes are made by suppliers all over the world. These have all been carefully selected and we have long-term working relationships with many of our suppliers.

Our partners are part of us, and we insist on high standards for safety, quality, environmental and social responsibility. We make sure that our suppliers get the training and support they need to be able to comply with our requirements and guidelines.

Since 2005, we have been a member of Amfori BSCI, an international initiative with thousands of members and suppliers working together on continuous improvements within the global supply chain. We share a Code of Conduct with Amfori BSCI’s more than two thousand other members from 45 countries, and our external inspections are carried out in accordance with the Amfori BSCI Code of Conduct and auditors approved by Amfori BSCI.

The Amfori BSCI Code of Conduct involves a commitment to work systematically with risk assessment, knowledge dispersion, inspection and improvement work at suppliers and factories. All suppliers that work for us must undertake to comply with the Code of Conduct as an integral part of their supplier agreement.

All this is monitored on a regular basis. All parts are scrutinised during an inspection and if any shortcomings are identified, we will work with the supplier to create an action plan. In a worst-case scenario, we may discontinue our collaboration, but primarily we always try to bring about improvements to avoid the employees suddenly losing their source of income.

In addition to the work we carry out via Amfori BSCI, we also work with factories that are SA8000 certified. In order for a factory to be SA8000 certified, it must achieve the highest scores on all parts of the Code of Conduct.

Since 2014, we have been active in “The Accord on Building and Fire Safety in Bangladesh”, now called “The Transition Accord”, which is designed to improve safety in the textile factories in Bangladesh.

You can read more about our social responsibility work in our Sustainability Report.

At least three children for each garment. This is real sustainability.

Our list of suppliers

It’s also important that our customers and other stakeholders get an insight into our business. So twice a year we publish an updated Suppliers List of the manufacturing countries and production units (sewing units) that manufacture our products.

The criteria for listing a production unit are that the value of our total production exceeds SEK 100,000 per year and that we have worked with the factory for at least one season. The public Suppliers List equates to 99% of our total order value.

In the Suppliers List, we report the most recent valid third-party inspections or certifications carried out at each sewing unit respectively and the extent to which the factory complies with the BSCI Code of Conduct according to 13 specified categories. In an inspection, each category is ranked from A (Very good) to E (Unacceptable). We report how large a percentage of the 13 categories has received A (Very Good) or B (Good) in the most recent inspection, i.e. the best results.

The list below shows which factories produce our clothes, sorted by country of production, as well as the results of the most recent inspection carried out at each factory:
