A high-tech padding that’s thin and flexible, yet insulates better than many thicker types. Here’s all you need to know about PrimaLoft®!

All our padded PO.P WeatherPRO garments are lined with PrimaLoft® Black insulation ECO, a thin and lightweight padding we’ve chosen specifically with children in mind. We want our children’s outerwear to offer good mobility for play, yet keep children just as warm as clothes with thicker padding. PrimaLoft is also an excellent choice for bad weather.

Synthetic microfibres make the material water resistant, which stops moisture from penetrating the clothes if it rains. The padding continues to insulate and keep the child warm, even when it gets wet.

Developed for the US Army

PrimaLoft padding was originally developed for the United States Army as a synthetic alternative to goose down. It is now one of the best alternatives on the market for thermal insulation without using down. Mats Jengard at PrimaLoft® explains how the padding works:

How can PrimaLoft feel thinner, but insulate better than many thicker types of padding?

– We work with microdenier fibres that create lots of tiny air pockets in the padding, giving a high warmth-to-weight-and-thickness ratio.

How exactly does it work compared to down?

– Since polyester is heavier than down, the garments look and feel less ‘puffy’ – you get easy-care and practical clothes that are better suited to tough use. Children’s outerwear also needs to be quick drying, a quality that down doesn’t usually offer.

What is PrimaLoft® Black insulation ECO made of?

– It consists of 100% polyester, with 80% of the material coming from post-consumer recycled PET bottles.

About seven half-litre bottles are used in each outerwear garment from Polarn O. Pyret.
