Knitted, cool, windproof, padded. This is where you’ll find all the information you need when choosing a hat for your child, whatever the weather.
Which size is best?
All our hats show a size and age. The age shown is a rough indication that the size usually fits this age, but children grow at very different rates and it’s always best to try before you buy.

Helmet hat
A tight-fitting hat that comes down over the ears, a good choice for babies and younger children. Our helmet hats come with different features.
Cotton hat
A simple hat for milder weather that also makes a great layer 1 under a warmer hat when it’s cold.
Knitted hat
A knitted hat is warmer than a cotton hat. We have fine-knit hats and hats in slightly thicker yarn. The latter are even warmer.
Wool hat
Hats in wool retain body heat even if they happen to get wet. They also work well as layer 1 under a winter hat when it’s really cold.
Lined hat
Our hats with soft, warming fleece lining. They come in different versions and are perfect when the weather has started to get chillier.
Winter hat
These are the hats that best withstand rain, wind and cold. They come in different designs, but all of them are windproof, waterproof and padded, and plus they have lined ear flaps – perfect for cold Nordic winters.
Balaclavas
Our balaclavas are perfect on the ski slopes where they keep the face and neck warm too, and the thinner versions are ideal worn under a helmet. Come in a couple of different designs.
Rain hat
Watertight rain hat with a brim that protects both the face and the back of the neck. Great all year round.
Newborn
Infants need to wear a hat year-round outdoors to protect them from cold and sunlight. Choose a thin cotton hat in the summer and a warmer, windproof hat in the winter.
Which hat for which child?
In general, children who are very active need a thinner hat than children who don’t move about quite as much. How does your child play? Feel the back of their neck to see if they are hot or cold. That helps you decide which hat to choose.
Which hat when?
Autumn: A cotton hat in early autumn, then a knitted, lined or wool hat once the weather turns chilly.
Winter: A winter hat. If it’s really cold, go for a thinner hat/balaclava with a winter hat on top. Then you can easily take one of the layers off if your child gets too hot, without leaving them bare-headed.
Spring:Â Cotton hat. But it can still be chilly, so choose a knitted, lined or wool hat.
Summer:Â Cap/sun hat that gives protection from the sun. Newborns can wear a thin cotton helmet/cap.
